<br />
Ok, so I know its been forever since I've posted on this site-- since you last heard from me I've gotten engaged, planned a wedding, gotten married, moved to a new city, and started a new job. So to say I've been a little busy is the understatement of the year! However, now that I'm settled in my new home in Dallas, TX and have gotten acclimated to my new job, I've got the blogging itch again. So here's to my first post in almost a year!<br />
<br />
I've been wanting to get a new rug for our dining room but since it's right after the holidays, I'm holding off spending money on my house for a little while. I did find the perfect rug designer though, and what's better than buying myself a new rug? Telling other people to buy themselves one! (Note: if you want to go window shopping, don't EVER ask me to come along-- I will ALWAYS tell you to buy whatever it is you say that you want. If you want to spend lots of money, however, I'm the perfect partner-in-crime!)<br />
<br />
Amy Butler is an AMAZINGLY talented pattern designer with such an eye for texture and color-- I've always loved her beautiful scrapbook papers and have used them for many of my craft projects. I recently discovered that, not only does she design craft supplies, but she has turned many of her most fabulous paper patterns into rugs for your home. Check out some of my favorites...<br />

I think scent is one of the senses that is most tied to memory; I know that when I smell certain things, they remind me of different experiences that I've had or people that I've known throughout my life. For that reason, I think the scent of your house is a very important aspect of the role that it plays in your life. While certain elements and activities that you perform in your home can produce a natural scent (such as cookies baking in the oven, dryer sheets that perfume your laundry room, or the fresh scent of a clean kitchen), sometimes candles, diffusers, and other fragrance aids can provide a signature scent or seasonal ambience for your home.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">For this reason, I'd like to share some of my favorite candles in hopes that I can inspire some of you to perfume your home with your own favorite aromas.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">#1: Paddywax Library Candles in <i>Edgar Allan Poe</i> scent</div><div style="text-align: center;">This musky scent has light floral undertones, making it very gender neutral.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDM1pak-pI/AAAAAAAAANc/3LewFiIu96o/s1600/edgar+allan+poe+candle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDM1pak-pI/AAAAAAAAANc/3LewFiIu96o/s1600/edgar+allan+poe+candle.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#2: Votivo Candles in <i>Vanilla Bergamot Blossom</i> scent</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When I first smelled this candle, it definitely wasn't my favorite, but as I've burned it, it has definitely grown on me It is such a light, fresh scent that fills your entire house without being too overpowering.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDNm9Pc-0I/AAAAAAAAANg/Tk7UIl704Xc/s1600/votivo+candle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDNm9Pc-0I/AAAAAAAAANg/Tk7UIl704Xc/s1600/votivo+candle.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#3: Voluspa Candles</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is one of my overall favorite candle brands- I have too many favorite scents to name them all! My first of many from this brand was <i>Pomegranate Patchouli</i>, which is wonderful, but I also like <i>Baltic Amber,</i> <i>Santiago Huckleberry, </i>and <i>Truffle White Cocoa.</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><br />
</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDPwcAP-LI/AAAAAAAAANo/yNCX3wFHcW8/s1600/voluspa+candle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDPwcAP-LI/AAAAAAAAANo/yNCX3wFHcW8/s320/voluspa+candle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><br />
</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><br />
</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#4: Slatkin & Company</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Again, this is a great cheap candle with such a deep and permeating scent that it fills your entire home. If you are the kind of person who likes to buy candles for each season, this line is perfect for you. My all time favorite is <i>Leaves,</i> the ideal fall scent; it smells like applesauce and cool, crisp autumn air. The Slatkin & Company Christmas candles can't be beat-- try <i>Winter</i> and <i>Holly Wreath.</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><br />
</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDPnrsCGTI/AAAAAAAAANk/OHqmnzsepjE/s1600/leaves+candle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDPnrsCGTI/AAAAAAAAANk/OHqmnzsepjE/s320/leaves+candle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#5: For Everybody Candles</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I've never seen these candles anywhere but TJ Maxx, and they don't have a lot of variety in their scent selections, but if the scent of baked goods and birthday cakes is something that you crave, check out their V<i>anilla Sugar Cookie</i> and <i>Birthday Cake </i>candles. If you're into natural soy candles that aren't very expensive, these might be perfect for you. Just try to ignore the folksy labels and less-than-stellar packaging.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDQhng6cLI/AAAAAAAAANs/qw7jVZvBl3g/s1600/for+everybody+candles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDQhng6cLI/AAAAAAAAANs/qw7jVZvBl3g/s320/for+everybody+candles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#6: Aspen Bay Candles</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This one is a new discovery for me, and I have to admit that I have never actually owned an Aspen Bay Candle, but it seems as if the past few times I have gone into a store and smelled something heavenly, an Aspen Bay Candle has been at work. I believe that the Fire scent is my favorite, but stay tuned for my informed opinion.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDRIOgDumI/AAAAAAAAANw/_k78HH4AxCA/s1600/Aspen+Bay+Candle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDRIOgDumI/AAAAAAAAANw/_k78HH4AxCA/s320/Aspen+Bay+Candle.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#7: ROOT Candles</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These candles may look small, but they sure do pack a mean punch! You can't go wrong with any ROOT candle, so make sure you try them all.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDSDC0PBFI/AAAAAAAAAN0/k6PZSvO5A8w/s1600/root+candle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDSDC0PBFI/AAAAAAAAAN0/k6PZSvO5A8w/s320/root+candle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#8: Henri Bendel candle in <i>Tonka Bean </i>scent</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My mom and I smelled this candle in a decorator's showhome about 3 years ago and were both obsessed with its rich scent- for the next 2 years its all we would burn. Since then this scent has been discontinued, but sometimes you can find it on eBay and, trust me, you won't have buyer's remorse.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDS633rX3I/AAAAAAAAAN4/U3G8F3U886M/s1600/tonka+bean.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TUDS633rX3I/AAAAAAAAAN4/U3G8F3U886M/s1600/tonka+bean.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Hopefully this post gives you a good basic knowledge of great candle companies from which to start your search for your home's signature scent. If you don't like my suggestions, try other options from the same lines-- there is a reason that there are so many varieties!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Hope your house is filled with beautiful smells that make it feel more like a home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The garland, the trees, the ornaments, the pretty wrapping paper-- it's all beautiful to me! I especially love the decor that seems wintery but can be used year round, and deer antlers are a great example of this. There are so many ways to use antlers in your everyday decor, and not all of them look masculine or woodsy. Here are some great ideas on how to incorporate this natural element into your house:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The antler chandelier on the left is so amazing and, when used in a more modern home. it evokes a cool, chic feeling.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhed0L1ULI/AAAAAAAAAMc/g-Q7leC6fmQ/s1600/antler+chandelier.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="230" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhed0L1ULI/AAAAAAAAAMc/g-Q7leC6fmQ/s320/antler+chandelier.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">By using a collection of antlers in a wall collage (such as those in the picture below), you can create a cool sculptural design element.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhe47316YI/AAAAAAAAAMg/fLXTvQHiBYk/s1600/antler+walls-jenna+lyons+home-brownbutton.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhe47316YI/AAAAAAAAAMg/fLXTvQHiBYk/s1600/antler+walls-jenna+lyons+home-brownbutton.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The antler theme in this room has been carried from the walls to the tablescape. When used with the sunny red and yellow flowers and blue patterned tablecloth, they seem less masculine and harsh.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhfGHinEiI/AAAAAAAAAMk/3_pyzxrHfaY/s1600/antlers+on+tablescape-+hb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhfGHinEiI/AAAAAAAAAMk/3_pyzxrHfaY/s320/antlers+on+tablescape-+hb.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Antlers mounted above a fireplace as a statement piece create a great focal point for any room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhfaTJpKyI/AAAAAAAAAMo/v88Gc0z1U3k/s1600/deer+antlers+above+mantel-+domino.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhfaTJpKyI/AAAAAAAAAMo/v88Gc0z1U3k/s320/deer+antlers+above+mantel-+domino.jpg" width="255" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These antler lamps would be such a funky, cool element in any room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhfl4wcgDI/AAAAAAAAAMs/wYaGKCgeiB4/s1600/roost-antler-lamp-+uncrate.com.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TPhfl4wcgDI/AAAAAAAAAMs/wYaGKCgeiB4/s320/roost-antler-lamp-+uncrate.com.jpg" width="274" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Winter decor elements can be implemented throughout the year in any home-- you just have to be brave enough to try new things and embrace the potential your house has to become a home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

One of the best places to find amazing throw pillows is Etsy. For those of you who haven't heard of it, Etsy is an online marketplace on which people can sell anything from handmade goods to vintage clothing to graphic designs. Basically, its heaven on the internet!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This will be the first of many posts about Etsy.com-- you can find so many unique items for your home at very affordable prices, which is why I'll be doing a weekly post about "The BEST ______ on Etsy" (fill in the blank with popular design trends and topics). If you have a type of design in mind that you want to see from the popular site, let me know and I'll try to accommodate!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So, as I was saying, here some of my favorite throw pillows from etsy.com:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">First, the pillows from seller <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple;"><i><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheHomeCentric?ref=seller_info">TheHomeCentric</a>.... </i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: black;">I can't even choose just one from her site, they are all amazing! Definitely check out her website on the link above, she has hundreds of pillows in amazing styles and colors.</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvfdNRXQcI/AAAAAAAAAL8/nkitFdwAGj8/s1600/gold+mosaic+pillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvfdNRXQcI/AAAAAAAAAL8/nkitFdwAGj8/s320/gold+mosaic+pillow.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">This gold mosaic pillow would add a touch of drama to any room.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvfssn3jdI/AAAAAAAAAMA/WI1x0Shefok/s1600/Rust+flower+pillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvfssn3jdI/AAAAAAAAAMA/WI1x0Shefok/s320/Rust+flower+pillow.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">This Terra Cotta-colored pillow is a beautiful color, and the flower detail is adorable.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvgD80hbfI/AAAAAAAAAME/CCQYxLpQR0A/s1600/teal+damask.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvgD80hbfI/AAAAAAAAAME/CCQYxLpQR0A/s320/teal+damask.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">This teal damask is such a bright pop of color, and the velvet sheen makes it even more unique.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvgZGfWo3I/AAAAAAAAAMI/hOSaFozmj8Y/s1600/peacock+pillows.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvgZGfWo3I/AAAAAAAAAMI/hOSaFozmj8Y/s320/peacock+pillows.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">This peacock detail provides some pattern and color for any decor.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also love these chic monochromatic pillows from the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/WordGarden?ref=seller_info"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple;">WordGarden</span></i></a> shop. The Paris theme is subtle but oh so stylish!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvkStbDSrI/AAAAAAAAAMM/i6yViIFKm10/s1600/Paris+pillows.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvkStbDSrI/AAAAAAAAAMM/i6yViIFKm10/s320/Paris+pillows.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">These scripted pillows add pattern without being too bright.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvkcVBAYiI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/CIF6OqHXfIY/s1600/Why+I+love+Paris+pillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOvkcVBAYiI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/CIF6OqHXfIY/s320/Why+I+love+Paris+pillow.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">Here is another wordsmith pillow, but instead of flowery script, these block letters describe famous sights in Paris.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple;"><i><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/HomemakerMovement?ref=seller_info">HomemakerMovement</a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: normal;">, the third Etsy shop on my list, has a more traditional offering of patterns and colors.</span></span></i></span></div><br />

Never again...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Today I'm going to be telling you about two of my dream design destinations. First, ABC Carpet & Home in NYC. This store, around since 1897, is 6 floors of amazing furniture, lighting, and home accents and, of course, rugs and carpets. Located on Broadway in New York City, it is a must see on any home decorating lover's list. The decorating giant has also recently opened a warehouse outlet in the Bronx where certain items are up to 75% off! Next time you're in NYC, make sure to check out this amazing store-- I know I will!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOFVX3-rXrI/AAAAAAAAALY/5fcHreiJCkA/s1600/outside+of+abc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TOFVX3-rXrI/AAAAAAAAALY/5fcHreiJCkA/s320/outside+of+abc.jpg" width="254" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Second, Nell Hill's in Atchison/Kansas City. Hundreds of women from all over the country make decorating trips to Mary Carol's Atchison store annually, leaving with truck and Suburban-loads FULL of amazing and unique home accents and accessories. In fact, Mary Carol recently expanded her reach by opening an even larger location in Briarcliff Village in Kansas City. If new kitchen cabinets are not an option for you, another great way to quickly update your kitchen is to paint your cabinets a unique and fun color. Here are some beautiful painted kitchen cabinet updates that you can try at home:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">These teal kitchen cabinets are beautifully paired with white walls and large-scale checkered wooden floors.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMboUMRFZRI/AAAAAAAAAK0/cktL1bZ_R5U/s1600/blue+cabinets+w:+checkered+floor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMboUMRFZRI/AAAAAAAAAK0/cktL1bZ_R5U/s1600/blue+cabinets+w:+checkered+floor.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Another view (I love the black pendant lights hanging above the island):</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbol6b06II/AAAAAAAAAK4/5Zx_QttMwFA/s1600/teal+kitchen+cabinets-+southern+living.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbol6b06II/AAAAAAAAAK4/5Zx_QttMwFA/s320/teal+kitchen+cabinets-+southern+living.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">Images from Southern Living</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This monochromatic gray paint is a very chic option.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbo37TBAhI/AAAAAAAAAK8/R0kSN5LfcsQ/s1600/gray+kitchen+cabinets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbo37TBAhI/AAAAAAAAAK8/R0kSN5LfcsQ/s320/gray+kitchen+cabinets.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This sage green is a very welcoming color, and I think it would look great with white marble or a light-colored granite.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbpUbmuPHI/AAAAAAAAALA/rIA508YrES0/s1600/Green+Kitchen+Cabinets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbpUbmuPHI/AAAAAAAAALA/rIA508YrES0/s320/Green+Kitchen+Cabinets.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The sage green is paired with wood floors, a beautiful rust-colored hood, and square glass pendant lanterns to create more of a rustic feel. The walls are even painted the same color to make a beautiful statement.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbpxJCCymI/AAAAAAAAALE/Ccob7gDd6sE/s1600/green+cabinets-+southern+accents.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbpxJCCymI/AAAAAAAAALE/Ccob7gDd6sE/s1600/green+cabinets-+southern+accents.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I love this dark plum color, and while it looks great with the sandy colored walls, I think it would also be beautiful paired with another color, like light blue.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbqNZnAKTI/AAAAAAAAALI/m8LdE8YjgaQ/s1600/purple+cabinets-+apartment+therapy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbqNZnAKTI/AAAAAAAAALI/m8LdE8YjgaQ/s320/purple+cabinets-+apartment+therapy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These bright red cabinets are so fresh, bold, and modern.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbqhPSL6pI/AAAAAAAAALM/SGNS3BXdj9M/s1600/red+kitchen+cabinets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbqhPSL6pI/AAAAAAAAALM/SGNS3BXdj9M/s320/red+kitchen+cabinets.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If the previous option is too much for you, choose a darker red color, and paint only the bottom half of your kitchen cabinetry red to ground your space and provide a pop of color.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbqqlbIIcI/AAAAAAAAALQ/rfIu6rMggII/s1600/red+painted+cabinets-+agnes+kitchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbqqlbIIcI/AAAAAAAAALQ/rfIu6rMggII/s320/red+painted+cabinets-+agnes+kitchen.jpg" width="227" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This buttery yellow color lightens up the room and brings a sunny, cheerful feel to your home. Notice that the walls are again painted the same color to provide a monochromatic canvas for your design.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbq_oxzEZI/AAAAAAAAALU/oryS4JuQXcs/s1600/yellow+cabinets-+kitchen+and+bath+ideas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMbq_oxzEZI/AAAAAAAAALU/oryS4JuQXcs/s320/yellow+cabinets-+kitchen+and+bath+ideas.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I hope these pictures have inspired you to grab a few cans of paint and update your kitchen in a unique and easy way to turn your house into a home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
These pillows are fashioned using a Pucci fabric that corresponds with the striped mural on the wall. Used with a neutral color scheme, they provide a focal point for the room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMGu64MXHaI/AAAAAAAAAKc/6N7cMmUBxiY/s1600/Pucci+living+room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMGu64MXHaI/AAAAAAAAAKc/6N7cMmUBxiY/s320/Pucci+living+room.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This Pucci chair is again used in a neutral color scheme, providing a bold pattern in a monochromatic pattern.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMGys3_B7cI/AAAAAAAAAKg/sTCT-MFTb7g/s1600/pucci+living+room+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMGys3_B7cI/AAAAAAAAAKg/sTCT-MFTb7g/s320/pucci+living+room+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These Pucci pillows are paired with other brightly-colored accessories against a neutral backdrop. I love the maroon pillows paired with the pink and green Pucci print- such a great contrast!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMGzZTFHhfI/AAAAAAAAAKk/wyJh8kFVjTk/s1600/Pucci+living+room+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="257" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMGzZTFHhfI/AAAAAAAAAKk/wyJh8kFVjTk/s320/Pucci+living+room+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here, the canopy drapes with the striped tent shades and pretty silver chandelier are a light and airy accent to the geometric Pucci print desk chair.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMG1WvuQkKI/AAAAAAAAAKo/QbKYIjp0XEo/s1600/Pucci+office.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMG1WvuQkKI/AAAAAAAAAKo/QbKYIjp0XEo/s320/Pucci+office.jpg" width="219" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Displayed here in a Pucci store, these pillows would be amazing in a living room or even a bedroom. The bright colors would be such an interesting accent to any home's decor.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMG2EXTYNbI/AAAAAAAAAKs/0ilZXFXXAzE/s1600/Pucci+Pillows.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="172" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMG2EXTYNbI/AAAAAAAAAKs/0ilZXFXXAzE/s320/Pucci+Pillows.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is the creator himself, Ralph Pucci, with some of his amazing patterns and prints hanging behind him.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMG2YpI-ovI/AAAAAAAAAKw/BOXg3-egfwQ/s1600/Pucci.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="176" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TMG2YpI-ovI/AAAAAAAAAKw/BOXg3-egfwQ/s320/Pucci.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Not only can clothing enhance your physical appearance, but you can also use it as inspiration in your life in other ways-- this is evidenced by Ralph Pucci's beautiful home decor collections. Using Pucci's bright colors in a neutral-colored palette is a great way to introduce a pop of bright color into your house to make it a home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">Julie</span></div></div>Julie Robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18264858571531947911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3235554581075644092.post-86948082148120200992010-10-20T14:10:00.000-07:002010-10-20T14:10:10.390-07:00It's All Greek to Me!<div style="text-align: center;">One of the ways to draw inspiration for your own spaces and design style is through the things that you are passionate about. My love of traveling and experiencing other cultures has created a lot of inspiration for me in many areas of my life, and design is one of these areas. The patterns, colors, and textures that I have encountered in other countries are so interesting, and it really broadens your horizons to experience what other cultures use to beautify their surroundings. The Greek key pattern is one cultural design that appeals to me because it can produce such an interesting contrast to other elements in a space. Here are some ways that you can integrate Greek key into your designs:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">A Pillow or other furniture accent is one of my favorite ways to add Greek key to a room because you can mix it with so many other patterns to create a unique palette. Here the pumpkin headboard, black and white bedding, and charcoal gray walls create a beautiful backdrop for the Greek key accent pillow.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL8UW59Dr6I/AAAAAAAAAJ4/LCOUIuVhKMQ/s1600/greek+key+pillow-+courtney+giles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL8UW59Dr6I/AAAAAAAAAJ4/LCOUIuVhKMQ/s320/greek+key+pillow-+courtney+giles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In another view you can see that Courtney Giles, the designer, mixed the geometric Greek key pattern with a black and white gingham neckroll pillow and chair and a black and white zigzag rug. I love how the colors are the same in each of these elements, but the patterns are so vastly different that they create depth in the design.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL8UvwM2hoI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/DdQGC6Y9JdY/s1600/greek+key+with+other+pattern-+decor+pad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL8UvwM2hoI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/DdQGC6Y9JdY/s320/greek+key+with+other+pattern-+decor+pad.jpg" width="241" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here the greek key rug adds interest to the flooring of the room- this choice is very bold with the repetitive greek key element, so if the intensity of the geometric pattern makes you feel uneasy, I would stick to something a little smaller with less impact.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL8VotayltI/AAAAAAAAAKA/YibIRJ274yA/s1600/black+and+white+greek+key+rug-+jennifer+flanders+design.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL8VotayltI/AAAAAAAAAKA/YibIRJ274yA/s320/black+and+white+greek+key+rug-+jennifer+flanders+design.jpg" width="230" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If the black and white pattern is too much of a contrast for you, consider implementing Greek key into your design in a more muted color. This taupe-colored Greek key pattern on the chair and two sofa pillows integrates the geometry of the pattern without too much contrast.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9XhZhaAKI/AAAAAAAAAKI/F7L-As942Y0/s1600/greek+key+chair:pillows-+decor+pad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="263" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9XhZhaAKI/AAAAAAAAAKI/F7L-As942Y0/s320/greek+key+chair:pillows-+decor+pad.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Using a large-scale Greek key pattern on a piece can create quite a statement-- here the valences are patterned after a twist on the traditional Greek key design.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9YcwQo_uI/AAAAAAAAAKM/Xqml2PNkP8A/s1600/greek+key+valences-+decor+pad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9YcwQo_uI/AAAAAAAAAKM/Xqml2PNkP8A/s320/greek+key+valences-+decor+pad.jpg" width="228" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The border of this rug also uses a larger-scale Greek key pattern, and it really works well with the white chairs with woven detail and the white framed cabinet in the background.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9Y5ayI5HI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/NeVlecj0F9E/s1600/greek+key+circle+rug-+decor+pad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9Y5ayI5HI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/NeVlecj0F9E/s320/greek+key+circle+rug-+decor+pad.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These crocodile embossed stools are studded with nail heads in the traditional Greek key pattern along the bottom of the piece, and it is such a subtle and chic way to integrate this exotic and fashionable pattern.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9ZOBymJlI/AAAAAAAAAKU/lbkOP7xxh48/s1600/croc+embossed+greek+key+stool.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9ZOBymJlI/AAAAAAAAAKU/lbkOP7xxh48/s1600/croc+embossed+greek+key+stool.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This sideboard has a Greek key detail on the drawers on either side, and it really makes the piece stand out. What a great way to make an old vintage piece stunningly updated! Plus, the design is multifunctional-- it serves as handles for the drawers as well.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9ZyP4dhsI/AAAAAAAAAKY/3aUW4Qb9j7I/s1600/greek+key+sideboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TL9ZyP4dhsI/AAAAAAAAAKY/3aUW4Qb9j7I/s1600/greek+key+sideboard.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I hope you can all embrace the amazing geometry of the Greek key pattern to turn your house into a home, because it is truly timeless and trendy at the same time. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I have been very inspired lately by wall collages-- they are such a fun way to display your personal treasures, memories, and collections without making them too stuffy. Here are some ideas on how to personalize your home with pictures, artwork, and other trinkets while still maintaining a fun design scheme.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This collage incorporates pictures and artwork of many different shapes, colors, and sizes. Playing with the size of the mats inside the frame is a fun way to introduce a new element into a collage of framed art.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnKnoFjsbI/AAAAAAAAAJU/lewNrkNiZqI/s1600/apartment+therapy+photo+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnKnoFjsbI/AAAAAAAAAJU/lewNrkNiZqI/s320/apartment+therapy+photo+collage.jpg" width="310" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">{Photo from Apartment Therapy}</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Another example of how you can use artwork of varying sizes to create a fun and unique photo collage.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnLTOCq51I/AAAAAAAAAJY/zNLACvcY0X0/s1600/flokati+rug+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnLTOCq51I/AAAAAAAAAJY/zNLACvcY0X0/s320/flokati+rug+collage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here, the collager again used artwork of varying shapes and sizes, but the large black lifesize cameo-esque bust in the middle draws your attention to the center of the wall.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnMeqtrKKI/AAAAAAAAAJc/4vIidoiYDvI/s1600/bust+photo+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnMeqtrKKI/AAAAAAAAAJc/4vIidoiYDvI/s320/bust+photo+collage.jpg" width="310" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">To change the impact of your photo collage, place the artwork closer together to create more of a cluster of photos.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnNBcy9w_I/AAAAAAAAAJg/XmqM0ffTawc/s1600/green+photo+wall+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnNBcy9w_I/AAAAAAAAAJg/XmqM0ffTawc/s1600/green+photo+wall+collage.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Instead of hanging pictures on walls, install large shelves and rest artwork of varying sizes on the shelves, accompanied by other fun items such as plants, decorative candles, etc. I love the ampersands and other letters that were used in this picture- you could use your initials! Use all possible space when constructing this collage-- the framed art resting on the floor creates a more dramatic effect than if the designer had only used the two shelves. Also, the black and white is a very chic way to display these photos.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnNWwSfUHI/AAAAAAAAAJk/a1ob8Ll4JkM/s1600/shelf+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnNWwSfUHI/AAAAAAAAAJk/a1ob8Ll4JkM/s320/shelf+collage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">{Photo from Pottery Barn}</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This photo collage uses lots of empty frames and mirrors mixed with other fun items (such as a faux deer head, a plate, and an initial letter) to create a very visually appealing wall collage.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnOPwmP7PI/AAAAAAAAAJo/nF_5rBheAK0/s1600/black+photo+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnOPwmP7PI/AAAAAAAAAJo/nF_5rBheAK0/s320/black+photo+collage.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A unique idea for a kitchen wall collage would be to use a collection of assorted plates to create an interesting arrangement on a wall. Be creative with the shape of your collage and the colors used in the plates!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnO0H6r_CI/AAAAAAAAAJs/tnnGtRjei8c/s1600/plate+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnO0H6r_CI/AAAAAAAAAJs/tnnGtRjei8c/s320/plate+collage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Finally, here are some small wall collages that I've done in my own home recently. I like to use a variety of items in my own collages-- framed art, shelves, initials, canvases, and other unique design items.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This collage is centered above my headboard of my bed- it was done using items that I already had in my house. You could certainly get even more creative if you were purchasing the items specifically for the collage!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnPpX_hJXI/AAAAAAAAAJw/lknyjggDt9c/s1600/IMG_2855.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnPpX_hJXI/AAAAAAAAAJw/lknyjggDt9c/s320/IMG_2855.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My roommate and I did this collage to go above our TV console in our living room. We used fabric covered canvases to introduce new patterns and textures, and the king and queen crowns introduce a different shape to the mix.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnQCTLSG9I/AAAAAAAAAJ0/7piv0jOsbzU/s1600/IMG_2857.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLnQCTLSG9I/AAAAAAAAAJ0/7piv0jOsbzU/s320/IMG_2857.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">{Note: These collages aren't crooked, I just had to take the pictures from an angle.}</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A collage wall is something that you could easily do in your own home without spending any money at all-- just look around and see what unique treasures you have to work with! It's a great way to infuse your own personality into your home's design to make it a home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">Julie</span></div>Julie Robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18264858571531947911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3235554581075644092.post-13675097243997878782010-10-13T10:19:00.000-07:002010-10-13T19:56:58.596-07:00Cozy Kitchen Seating<div style="text-align: center;">I always love it when people put a creative spin on traditional design... it's so unexpected! One of the trends in home design that I think qualifies as such is banquette or bench seating in a kitchen. It's such a cozy alternative to dining chairs, and it creates such a warm and comfortable feeling in a home. Here are some of my favorite pictures of banquettes:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This picture uses a traditional table setting with three chairs and a banquette on one side of the table. I love how the designer incorporated the black and white stripe on the cushions and popped in an apple green color with the pillows.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXl64EAhxI/AAAAAAAAAI4/nsYiBZDFdJE/s1600/striped+banquette.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXl64EAhxI/AAAAAAAAAI4/nsYiBZDFdJE/s320/striped+banquette.jpg" width="289" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In this picture, a rectangular table was again used with two end chairs and a banquette along the wall. In this design, however, the chairs used are upholstered, which go along with the cozy feeling that the banquette evokes. And again, the color introduced with the pillows is fabulous!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXmTnX3UgI/AAAAAAAAAI8/CxOuI0b1Sac/s1600/banquette+w:+2+end+chairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXmTnX3UgI/AAAAAAAAAI8/CxOuI0b1Sac/s320/banquette+w:+2+end+chairs.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here, the concept is similar to the previous two pictures with the table, chairs, and banquette, but the use of a round table as opposed to a rectangular one frees up a little more space and allows the table to be more of a corner piece.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">{Note: I love the photo collage wall behind the banquette and the pops of turquoise with the coffee mugs. Stay tuned for a post about photo collages.}</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXnI6ul8pI/AAAAAAAAAJA/IoEJjbi3yzU/s1600/banquette+seating+with+photo+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXnI6ul8pI/AAAAAAAAAJA/IoEJjbi3yzU/s320/banquette+seating+with+photo+collage.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I love how this kitchen has the banquette seating in the middle of the room coming off of the island... such a creative alternative to traditional barstools!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXnrk-5TKI/AAAAAAAAAJE/S2wFmfKRwfE/s1600/Banquette+island.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXnrk-5TKI/AAAAAAAAAJE/S2wFmfKRwfE/s320/Banquette+island.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Again, this picture is unique in that the banquette is positioned in the center of the room-- I love the curved shape that exactly mirrors the shape of the table. This piece of furniture could be used in almost any room of the house; it would be great for repurposing someday if this kitchen was remodeled.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXoBBYLIzI/AAAAAAAAAJI/xddfKLv19qo/s1600/curved+banquette+seating.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXoBBYLIzI/AAAAAAAAAJI/xddfKLv19qo/s320/curved+banquette+seating.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This kitchen uses the traditional banquette, but then brings in other upholstered pieces to complete the design. An ottoman placed between the banquette and a large armchair create a cozy seating area that would be the perfect place to enjoy breakfast and a cup of coffee or hot chocolate on a chilly day.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXofRoo6iI/AAAAAAAAAJM/Gzy2aUgfDIg/s1600/armchair:ottoman+w:+bench.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXofRoo6iI/AAAAAAAAAJM/Gzy2aUgfDIg/s320/armchair:ottoman+w:+bench.jpg" width="312" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Finally, while this is not banquette seating, I wanted to include this picture because it provides a non-traditional example of bar seating. The bench provides a unique alternative to bar stools, while the square yellow stools add interest with their rectangular shape and bright, sunny color. Think outside of the box, don't mold your designs to fit what everyone else already has!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXpGYSowdI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/tMcfy9KPqg4/s1600/Bar+Bench+Seats.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="157" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLXpGYSowdI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/tMcfy9KPqg4/s320/Bar+Bench+Seats.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Consider using this trend to update your kitchen while making it a comfortable retreat for you and our loved ones. We only get one chance to live our life... lets make it inspiring!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">Julie</span></div>Julie Robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18264858571531947911noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3235554581075644092.post-8627571867196291402010-10-12T09:30:00.000-07:002010-10-12T09:31:39.412-07:00Seeing Things Clearly<div style="text-align: center;">Lucite is a big trend in contemporary home design, but it's easy to integrate lucite into a home that doesn't have a contemporary style. For those who don't know, lucite is a transparent plastic acrylic resin that comes in a variety of colors. I think adding an element of lucite to a home is a great and inexpensive way to add a stylish and updated touch to your home.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">For example, you could integrate one furniture piece, such as a table or some chairs made out of lucite with your existing furniture.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I love this room because it is decorated with so many colors, but adding any more color would be overwhelming; the lucite coffee table grounds the space without adding too much bulk to the room.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSMtCs2IjI/AAAAAAAAAI0/hmBBbFV1noU/s1600/great+coffee+table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSMtCs2IjI/AAAAAAAAAI0/hmBBbFV1noU/s320/great+coffee+table.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This home office has a lucite chair mixed with a plain white desk and rustic wooden bookshelves. I've also noticed that lucite furniture with an animal print rug is a common theme-- probably because it looks so chic!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSIywfRczI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/7fWF7VATWT8/s1600/1-forward-living-room-0408-xlg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSIywfRczI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/7fWF7VATWT8/s320/1-forward-living-room-0408-xlg.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These lucite stools add another dimension to this colorful room-- they prevent it from looking too heavy and weighted down.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSJRD8C2jI/AAAAAAAAAIU/-AsNbP0QkKQ/s1600/lucite+stools.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSJRD8C2jI/AAAAAAAAAIU/-AsNbP0QkKQ/s320/lucite+stools.jpg" width="244" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Again, using transparent furniture in this room in the form of these stools continues the light and airy feeling that it conveys throughout the space.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">{Notice the animal print rug again!}</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSJkoH6lhI/AAAAAAAAAIY/jXGBHZRgehc/s1600/lucite+stools.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSJkoH6lhI/AAAAAAAAAIY/jXGBHZRgehc/s320/lucite+stools.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These lucite dining chairs add a touch of modern femininity to an otherwise masculine, dark room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSKK5GOhcI/AAAAAAAAAIc/3DaWS_X4Sfw/s1600/spruce-design-decor-lucite.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSKK5GOhcI/AAAAAAAAAIc/3DaWS_X4Sfw/s320/spruce-design-decor-lucite.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Using lucite for shelving provides a chic way to store and organize your home without weighing down a wall with thick heavy wooden or metal shelves.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">{Again, see the animal print? As a side note, animal print such as leopard or zebra is considered to be a design neutral by many, meaning that it goes well with any color, pattern, or style.}</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSKbSWTsmI/AAAAAAAAAIg/mAsGJrGDbeE/s1600/lucite-shelves1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSKbSWTsmI/AAAAAAAAAIg/mAsGJrGDbeE/s320/lucite-shelves1.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If completely see-through furniture is not quite your style, consider integrating this fun trend through the lighting in your home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This lucite chandelier would be <i>beautiful</i> when lit-- with the light streaming through the clear resin, it would provide an abundance of light while looking ultra-stylish.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSLFypuvKI/AAAAAAAAAIk/Pm1aa_O-fqM/s1600/lucite+chandelier.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSLFypuvKI/AAAAAAAAAIk/Pm1aa_O-fqM/s320/lucite+chandelier.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Lucite lamps are another fun lighting option-- using them with a lucite coffee table provides a common theme for the room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSLf2CJI2I/AAAAAAAAAIo/nMKoLSyI0Ig/s1600/lucite+lamps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSLf2CJI2I/AAAAAAAAAIo/nMKoLSyI0Ig/s1600/lucite+lamps.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">While clear lucite is the most popular because of its light and airy feeling, lucite comes in a variety of colors.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here, a magenta lucite table adds another pop of color to the room in a sleek and sophisticated way.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSLyOxdpFI/AAAAAAAAAIs/DEVHXekWVF0/s1600/magenta+lucite+table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSLyOxdpFI/AAAAAAAAAIs/DEVHXekWVF0/s320/magenta+lucite+table.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This yellow lucite office chair is so bright and happy, its sure to add a touch of cheer to any design concept.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSME8cirMI/AAAAAAAAAIw/c-J5Lt0gkbU/s1600/yellow+lucite.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="253" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TLSME8cirMI/AAAAAAAAAIw/c-J5Lt0gkbU/s320/yellow+lucite.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As you can see, lucite can be added to any design scheme to add a touch of modern style to a room. I hope you've seen this design scheme "clearly" enough to consider using lucite in your house to turn it into a home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Not all of us, however, have the luxury of owning the piece of history that an old house provides. If you love the charm of older houses but instead own a brand new piece of property, installing tin ceiling tiles to accent your house's architecture is a unique way to achieve the look of character that you're going for. Here are some unique ways to use tin ceiling tiles to spruce up your house's interior:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Using tin tiles on the ceiling in your kitchen are a great way to add vintage charm to an otherwise blank canvas.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">These silver tin ceiling tiles are sleek and sophisticated.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_fm6iLiZI/AAAAAAAAAHY/l54aepEzHao/s1600/tin+ceiling+kitchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_fm6iLiZI/AAAAAAAAAHY/l54aepEzHao/s320/tin+ceiling+kitchen.jpg" width="254" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There are so many different patterns, sizes, and varieties of ceiling tiles, making it easy to choose those that best fit your style!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_gKDvb6dI/AAAAAAAAAHc/VjhPDJAcsu8/s1600/tin+ceiling+kitchen+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_gKDvb6dI/AAAAAAAAAHc/VjhPDJAcsu8/s320/tin+ceiling+kitchen+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The ceiling tiles in these kitchens have been painted so that the ceiling has almost an embossed look, emphasizing the pattern and design of the tiles without the stark contrast of the tin.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_gebey8VI/AAAAAAAAAHg/WeC78arws48/s1600/NOH-Giannetti-1-10-kitchen-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_gebey8VI/AAAAAAAAAHg/WeC78arws48/s320/NOH-Giannetti-1-10-kitchen-1.jpg" width="215" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_hBRwG2tI/AAAAAAAAAHo/gqXxrxGghYk/s1600/painted+tin+ceiling+tiles+in+kitchen.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_hBRwG2tI/AAAAAAAAAHo/gqXxrxGghYk/s320/painted+tin+ceiling+tiles+in+kitchen.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Tin ceiling tiles can add character to your home without being applied to the ceiling-- here are a few ideas on how to use tin ceiling tiles in other useful and creative ways:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Covering an entire wall with tin creates an amazing accent wall.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_i5hCD37I/AAAAAAAAAH8/lFcQRKoIohA/s1600/tin+ceiling+tile+wall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_i5hCD37I/AAAAAAAAAH8/lFcQRKoIohA/s320/tin+ceiling+tile+wall.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If a wall covered in metal is too much for your taste, think about making just a bed headboard out of tin tiles-- it adds a modern touch without being overwhelmingly metallic. You can use lots of tiny metal tiles pieced together or...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_ismBA6WI/AAAAAAAAAH0/Y0KPObzXcrE/s1600/tin+ceiling+headboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_ismBA6WI/AAAAAAAAAH0/Y0KPObzXcrE/s320/tin+ceiling+headboard.jpg" width="243" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">... three larger tiles placed side by side! In this case, the more distressed the better!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_izdmilXI/AAAAAAAAAH4/32XObXGa0hk/s1600/tin+ceiling+panel+headboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="235" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_izdmilXI/AAAAAAAAAH4/32XObXGa0hk/s320/tin+ceiling+panel+headboard.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Instead of beadboard on a wall in a bathroom, why not cover it in coppery ceiling tiles to create a more interesting palette? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_jAFUrZkI/AAAAAAAAAIA/p0Qmm8X-6Qo/s1600/tin+tile+%22beadboard%22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_jAFUrZkI/AAAAAAAAAIA/p0Qmm8X-6Qo/s320/tin+tile+%22beadboard%22.jpg" width="270" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ok, maybe its an Oklahoma thing, but people here love to cover up a fridge with wood panels to hide it and make it blend in with the rest of the kitchen, and it is SO not appealing to me. These decorative tin panels make the fridge stand out rather than fade into the background. After all, shouldn't the food be the star in the kitchen?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_jEnlD3OI/AAAAAAAAAIE/WvyfOEL7UFQ/s1600/tin+fridge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_jEnlD3OI/AAAAAAAAAIE/WvyfOEL7UFQ/s320/tin+fridge.jpg" width="304" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The idea of using old ceiling tiles to create a custom magnet board is so vintage chic. You could frame it or leave the edges raw and untouched to further enhance its vintage appeal.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_k01Y_x7I/AAAAAAAAAII/SRKMj0vAWDc/s1600/new+mag+board.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_k01Y_x7I/AAAAAAAAAII/SRKMj0vAWDc/s320/new+mag+board.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Finally, turning an old ceiling tile into a fabulous mirror would create a custom piece for any bathroom, entryway, or other interesting place in your house.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_mHH9EkFI/AAAAAAAAAIM/Xh-gifMlxYE/s1600/tin+mirror.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TK_mHH9EkFI/AAAAAAAAAIM/Xh-gifMlxYE/s320/tin+mirror.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Instead of thinking of tin and other metals as cold and unfriendly, consider using these creative ideas to add charm and vintage appeal to your house and make it a home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">Julie</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Something about those glossy pages filled with inspiration and potential makes me giddy, and I just can't wait to open the pages and dive into reading it. My mom thinks I'm somewhat of a magazine junky-- I guess subscribing to 7 (and lusting after even more) might qualify a person for that description.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Because magazines are such a big part of my design inspiration (I have binders for all of the magazine pictures that I've ripped out), I thought that I would share with you the design magazines that I can't live without. I am so very sad to say that some of these have been canceled (the print and magazine industry is truly struggling due to the rising popularity of the internet), but many are still up and running, and they are as amazing as ever!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">#1. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;">HOUSE BEAUTIFUL</span>: This is truly my favorite magazine that I receive-- I look forward to it every month, and I love almost everything inside of its beautiful binding. Even the cover never fails to inspire me!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyHJR-jU0I/AAAAAAAAAG4/YjprrvUIlew/s1600/house+beautiful.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyHJR-jU0I/AAAAAAAAAG4/YjprrvUIlew/s320/house+beautiful.jpg" width="264" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#2. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;">ELLE DECOR</span>: A close second to House Beautiful, Elle Decor conveys a more transitional style (a mix of traditional and contemporary), which I love because it mixes classic and traditional with modern and trendy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyHuhrSovI/AAAAAAAAAG8/u1dY6aAenhE/s1600/Elle+Decor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyHuhrSovI/AAAAAAAAAG8/u1dY6aAenhE/s320/Elle+Decor.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#3. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;">TRADITIONAL HOME</span>: As is evident from the title, this publication conveys a more traditional and elegant design style, but it is definitely still current and updated. It should be a staple in a decorator's magazine repertoire.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyH2EYQaGI/AAAAAAAAAHA/ltoubIPb414/s1600/traditional+home.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyH2EYQaGI/AAAAAAAAAHA/ltoubIPb414/s320/traditional+home.jpg" width="246" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#4: <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;">MARTHA STEWART LIVING</span>: Good ole Martha Stewart... while I realize that she <i>is</i> an ex-convict, I just can't deny her creativity. Her ideas are more attainable for the busy mother, wife, etc.... this magazine is a kind of decorating-made-easy publication. She <i>does</i> come up with the most creative ideas, and I love that her magazine has a little bit of everything-- decorating, fashion, recipes, and more.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyIXERoVNI/AAAAAAAAAHE/48nZMB_eYHo/s1600/Martha+Stewart+Living+Iron+On+article+Cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyIXERoVNI/AAAAAAAAAHE/48nZMB_eYHo/s320/Martha+Stewart+Living+Iron+On+article+Cover.jpg" width="252" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#5: <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;">REAL SIMPLE</span>: Another amazing read. Real Simple is published by Time, Inc., and as the title suggests, it is characterized by its simple and uncluttered layouts, and it is similar to Martha Stewart Living in that it shares life-made-easier ideas to inspire. While not really a decorating magazine, I think everyone should try this magazine out simply for its amazing ideas and content.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyKWNi1emI/AAAAAAAAAHI/JKC23UaG-44/s1600/real+simple.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyKWNi1emI/AAAAAAAAAHI/JKC23UaG-44/s320/real+simple.jpg" width="260" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#6: <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;">DOMINO</span>: One of the most sickening magazine cancellations EVER. I was <i>obsessed</i> with Domino for the longest time, but I just bought it at the store every time there was a new issue. I had finally decided to subscribe to it, and then it gets cancelled right after I receive my first issue. You can imagine my dismay... (sigh). Let's observe a moment of silence in honor of this legendary publication's last cover, please.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyLXUNjznI/AAAAAAAAAHM/DQCbAXoKDwE/s1600/domino+cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyLXUNjznI/AAAAAAAAAHM/DQCbAXoKDwE/s320/domino+cover.jpg" width="247" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">While I know that you can't subscribe to it, I'm sharing it with you because before its cancellation, the editors came out with the <i>Domino: The Book of Decorating</i>, which is an amazing book that provides an inspiration resource for every room in your house. It is truly fabulous, and I would highly recommend at least finding it at your local library, if not purchasing it as a permanent design resource.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyL-d8hxII/AAAAAAAAAHQ/MuCRxvYcZRU/s1600/domino-book-of-decorating_f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyL-d8hxII/AAAAAAAAAHQ/MuCRxvYcZRU/s320/domino-book-of-decorating_f.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">#7: <span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;">RUE</span>: Finally, the newest magazine in my lineup is Rue. What is so amazing about this magazine is that it is solely <i>online</i>, so there is no need to subscribe to it, meaning that it is totally and completely free! Because of lower overhead and operating costs, the magazine is run solely on its advertising income. What an amazing concept! While I still love the thrill of receiving my magazines in the mail each month, I can see this becoming the publication trend of the future, with the invent of computers, Kindles, and more. Rue reports on a little bit of everything (design, fashion, etc.), but it is primarily a decorating magazine. Best of all, the first issue was this month, so you can hop on this trend from the very beginning!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyPilOqELI/AAAAAAAAAHU/NUDOHO-67z0/s1600/rue091410.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKyPilOqELI/AAAAAAAAAHU/NUDOHO-67z0/s320/rue091410.jpg" width="247" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's a <a href="http://issuu.com/ruemag/docs/rue_issue_01_final?viewMode=presentation">link</a> to the first issue of Rue, an amazing new magazine.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Hope this has inspi-read (sorry, I had to) all of you to subscribe to some new magazines for new ideas to turn your house into a home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

It's sometimes easy, however, for holiday decor to look cheesy instead of spirited and beautiful. Here are some sophisticated Halloween decorations to inspire you to get in the holiday spirit, even on Halloween!</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Pumpkins are a Halloween decorating staple and a must-have for your home on this ghoulish holiday. Here are some unique varieties that you could incorporate into your decor this October.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">These pumpkins are a unique twist on the traditional Halloween decor with their metallic patterns of polka dots, checks, stars, and stripes. They would look so great on a front porch or even inside integrated into bookshelves or on a mantel.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKp_qucEGwI/AAAAAAAAAGA/857NvEh9MZg/s1600/CLX1008Gilding19-de.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKp_qucEGwI/AAAAAAAAAGA/857NvEh9MZg/s320/CLX1008Gilding19-de.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here they are in a porch display-- so chic!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqDl92QqZI/AAAAAAAAAGE/ebS0L8SSLv0/s1600/CLX1008TOCGilding27-de.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqDl92QqZI/AAAAAAAAAGE/ebS0L8SSLv0/s320/CLX1008TOCGilding27-de.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Even inside your home and paired with apothecary jars full of Halloween candy, silvery pumpkins make every display unique and modern.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqGXzBKz_I/AAAAAAAAAGY/Lw4EgpH0_e0/s1600/silver+pumpkins.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqGXzBKz_I/AAAAAAAAAGY/Lw4EgpH0_e0/s320/silver+pumpkins.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Using different colors and shapes of pumpkins or gourds adds interest and variety to your Halloween display. I also love the black flowers in the vase on the left-- a dark and vampy way to add nature to your home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqD5CC9kpI/AAAAAAAAAGI/RQiLgixXMe0/s1600/create-your-own-pumpkins-l.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqD5CC9kpI/AAAAAAAAAGI/RQiLgixXMe0/s320/create-your-own-pumpkins-l.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If the idea of pumpkins bearing eerie faces or patterns makes you cringe, consider carving your house address number into a traditional pumpkin to display your holiday cheer in a more conservative way.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqEv2bQBdI/AAAAAAAAAGM/skyO7yRfKLQ/s1600/pumpkinno1007m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqEv2bQBdI/AAAAAAAAAGM/skyO7yRfKLQ/s1600/pumpkinno1007m.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The tree formed out of the painted pumpkins displayed in this bookshelf is such a creative way to integrate Halloween into your everyday life.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqFVDragQI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/qwRft4RCOQQ/s1600/Pumpkin-Decor-tree-1010-de.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqFVDragQI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/qwRft4RCOQQ/s320/Pumpkin-Decor-tree-1010-de.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These dark and mysterious floral bouquets in antique silver vases have a gothic edge to them-- perfect for a spooky Halloween night!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqHHipJTVI/AAAAAAAAAGc/cH2h5jageFE/s1600/3029_101207_halloweenbouquet_xl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqHHipJTVI/AAAAAAAAAGc/cH2h5jageFE/s320/3029_101207_halloweenbouquet_xl.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Bare asymmetrical branches dripping with Halloween baubles are chic and stylish. The bangles are Christmas ornaments sprayed deep black, mossy green, and pumpkin orange.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqHbfbJqTI/AAAAAAAAAGg/67_-J1F8PZE/s1600/halloween+branches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqHbfbJqTI/AAAAAAAAAGg/67_-J1F8PZE/s320/halloween+branches.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This monochromatic neutral Halloween display uses lanterns, creamy-colored pumpkins, black crows, and lots of other black accents to create a unique porch display that is eerie without being typical.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqJVaVfwfI/AAAAAAAAAGo/OsoV2X0abms/s1600/martha+halloween.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqJVaVfwfI/AAAAAAAAAGo/OsoV2X0abms/s1600/martha+halloween.jpeg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This decor, while more colorful with its bright orange door, pumpkins, and pillows, still integrates lanterns, candles, branches, and other silvery details for a unique look. The black feather wreath is a modern update of a traditional wreath made of branches.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqKiSkZeeI/AAAAAAAAAGs/hRc1WugS6XY/s1600/Halloweenfrontporch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqKiSkZeeI/AAAAAAAAAGs/hRc1WugS6XY/s320/Halloweenfrontporch.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These black and white plates mixed with pumpkins, gourds, black glass candlesticks, and fall flowers add Halloween glamour to a home. The black and white plates could even be kept up year round for a creative wall display.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqMx3sc8iI/AAAAAAAAAGw/bR9XCfTaODo/s1600/halloween+plate+decor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqMx3sc8iI/AAAAAAAAAGw/bR9XCfTaODo/s320/halloween+plate+decor.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Halloween tablescapes can be stylish and fun instead of cheesy and typical. Candlesticks dripping with crystals, black crows, and skull detail plates are gothic without being too dark when mixed with cupcakes, purple hydrangeas, and magenta napkins. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqOgMHbY-I/AAAAAAAAAG0/tbGPA--A6LY/s1600/Halloween-Party-Decorations-main-1010-de.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKqOgMHbY-I/AAAAAAAAAG0/tbGPA--A6LY/s320/Halloween-Party-Decorations-main-1010-de.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Decorating for the holidays can add style and glamour to your house if you let it... all you need is a little creativity to turn it into a spirited home. Happy October!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div>Julie Robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18264858571531947911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3235554581075644092.post-90701132339442556782010-10-02T07:42:00.000-07:002010-10-02T07:42:33.799-07:00Decorating with Global Style<div style="text-align: center;">Hey y'all! Today I'm going to be exploring how to bring global style to your home by using maps as decor throughout your house. In college I studied International Business, so traveling and experiencing all that the world has to offer was a big part of my education. I was fortunate enough to be able to study abroad twice (once in Italy and once in Scotland), and both of those opportunities definitely broadened my perspective. If you haven't had a chance to go abroad, I would highly recommend that you do so-- it will change your life! But for now, if that isn't an option, consider integrating the world into your home by using one of these decorating ideas:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Using map wallpaper is a fun alternative to paint. It would be especially fabulous in a little boy's room-- he can learn geography while he's going to sleep-- or in a study.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKc_6yuFcJI/AAAAAAAAAFc/GbsjXiWFzj4/s1600/map+wallpaper.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKc_6yuFcJI/AAAAAAAAAFc/GbsjXiWFzj4/s320/map+wallpaper.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This map dresser adds global style to your room in a unique way. The black metal knobs really stand out against the beige dresser. Use this dresser in a bedroom as a way to store a man's clothing-- it's masculine without being too harsh.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdAbLXnJvI/AAAAAAAAAFg/ryU7GqdCSLw/s1600/map+dresser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdAbLXnJvI/AAAAAAAAAFg/ryU7GqdCSLw/s320/map+dresser.jpg" width="294" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These map blinds are absolutely amazing. They remind me of an old schoolhouse, and they would look great with dark wood floors and white trim. To really make a statement, you could paint the walls a soft pumpkin orange color to bring out the colors of the map.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdA4Q3ky7I/AAAAAAAAAFk/A-4SQOgNQlg/s1600/map+blinds.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdA4Q3ky7I/AAAAAAAAAFk/A-4SQOgNQlg/s1600/map+blinds.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If blinds are too much of a statement for you, think about installing a pulldown map as a piece of art on the wall. I love how this map decor is accentuated by the different shades of blue of the dresser, flowers, and lamps.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdBSis4hAI/AAAAAAAAAFo/nNIqRp40NYg/s1600/map_pulldownblue+hgtv.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdBSis4hAI/AAAAAAAAAFo/nNIqRp40NYg/s320/map_pulldownblue+hgtv.jpg" width="273" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Instead of using the pulldown variety, you could frame a large map and hang it on the wall. Notice that the blue is again accented by the turquoise bowls.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdBswBLtzI/AAAAAAAAAFs/oNw-D-Rw7H8/s1600/map+decor+from+all+things+blue+blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdBswBLtzI/AAAAAAAAAFs/oNw-D-Rw7H8/s320/map+decor+from+all+things+blue+blog.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Using a variety of framed maps adds even more interest to a wall. Here, one large map is separated into six sections, and the sections are framed and hung together to create the look of the larger map. This is such a clever way to create 6 smaller pieces of art out of one original-- and it would be very inexpensive!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdCKtL_fsI/AAAAAAAAAFw/TFDXbvk2k7A/s1600/framed+maps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdCKtL_fsI/AAAAAAAAAFw/TFDXbvk2k7A/s320/framed+maps.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This idea may be my favorite way to use maps as wall art. Variety is added by using different frames, sizes, and types of maps, but they are unified by the fact that they are all pictures of geography. They look so interesting on the wall, and they would be a real conversation piece.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdCzXwfKlI/AAAAAAAAAF0/dT9o40RgX_k/s1600/maps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdCzXwfKlI/AAAAAAAAAF0/dT9o40RgX_k/s1600/maps.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is another fun way to inspire children to learn. By painting a map on the wall with chalkboard paint (this one is a map of the United States, but I think you could do any map), you can use it as a way to teach them states and geography while still adding style to your home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdDcrlMCOI/AAAAAAAAAF4/9mZ32NdEnnc/s1600/unique-home-decor-maps-pbteen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdDcrlMCOI/AAAAAAAAAF4/9mZ32NdEnnc/s320/unique-home-decor-maps-pbteen.jpg" width="294" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Last but not least, you can add map pillows as a less permanent way to introduce map decor into your home. These pillows are AMAZING in person-- all hand-embroidered, and each one is so unique. While this one is my favorite ("I'm Sooner born and Sooner bred and when I die I'll be Sooner dead"), they can be ordered for any state, and they even have some for different regions and countries (Napa Valley, Route 66, Italy, etc.). These can be found locally at Antique Garden on Campus Corner, or look online for a retailer near you.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdDy1vMDOI/AAAAAAAAAF8/4N9psq-FI-Y/s1600/oklahoma+pillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKdDy1vMDOI/AAAAAAAAAF8/4N9psq-FI-Y/s320/oklahoma+pillow.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Using maps as decor would be a great way to add a piece of history to your home, and these ideas would allow you to do so in a modern way. Until next time.... Boomer Sooner, Beat Texas!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Finding the right paint color for a room can be tricky... how do you match the existing wood and other elements? What if the contrast is too stark or the colors don't have the right undertones? Painting the walls, trim, and even ceiling in a room a single color is a fun and unique way to ensure that your color scheme is unified-- plus it adds style to your room without being too trendy. Some examples...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSULJxS7vI/AAAAAAAAAE8/y5acjiYUPow/s1600/1031entrance.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSULJxS7vI/AAAAAAAAAE8/y5acjiYUPow/s320/1031entrance.jpg" width="235" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This updated Highland Park manor was featured in the Dallas Morning News. Designer James McEnroe was able to maintain the classic feel of the home's interior while adding an art deco twist with the monochromatic color scheme in the entryway. I love how every surface in the room is painted a steely gray-blue except the floors and the banister. And notice that the walls and trim in the living room just behind the entryway are painted two different colors-- you don't have to carry this trend throughout your entire house. Use another element to unify the two rooms with one another, such as the gray-blue curtains that McEnroe has used on the windows in the living room to coordinate with the paint color in the entryway.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">{Note: This house will be explored further in another post-- it's just too amazing to ignore! I fully intend on driving by to see it this weekend while I'm in Dallas to cheer on my Sooners...}</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSV0Hi92vI/AAAAAAAAAFA/TEL0xO5p980/s1600/IMG_0066.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSV0Hi92vI/AAAAAAAAAFA/TEL0xO5p980/s320/IMG_0066.jpg" width="239" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is another example of how painting every surface in a room a single color (except the floors, which I wouldn't recommend) can create a very dramatic effect. This is a Restoration Hardware store in Columbus, Ohio. The darker gray color pallet is accented by the light-colored sofa and coffee table, and the combination of these colors in the room creates a neutral color scheme. I think you could also add a variety of accent colors to this room to achieve a different result... adding pops of color such as bright orange, light powdery blue, or even a classic red with white would completely change the look of this room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSYmN-mJwI/AAAAAAAAAFE/oAbzNrp30HE/s1600/elle_decor_ali_wentowrth_rect540.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSYmN-mJwI/AAAAAAAAAFE/oAbzNrp30HE/s320/elle_decor_ali_wentowrth_rect540.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Oh, Elle Decor.... you never fail to inspire me. If you like my blog, and you have never read Elle Decor (or House Beautiful for that matter) you need to go straight to the nearest Barnes & Noble and buy both immediately. This room is from the pages of Elle Decor, and it is another great example of how a dark neutral paint color used on the walls and trim can create a stunning canvas for a beautiful room. The ceiling in this example has been left unpainted, and I think it really opens up the space. I also love the chocolate brown couch and love seat, but I think you could experiment with so many different furniture options in this room, which is what makes it so great!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSaM9q4EjI/AAAAAAAAAFI/E4rXJFnAL1I/s1600/Idea+cottage+10+-den.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSaM9q4EjI/AAAAAAAAAFI/E4rXJFnAL1I/s320/Idea+cottage+10+-den.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's another example of a dark neutral paint color that is accented with bright creamy furniture.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSak5Ow2iI/AAAAAAAAAFM/i9lZQZp45qU/s1600/marthastewartguesthousepink.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSak5Ow2iI/AAAAAAAAAFM/i9lZQZp45qU/s320/marthastewartguesthousepink.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Painting a room a single-color doesn't mean that you have to always use neutrals... here is an example of one way you can use monochromatic color to add an unexpected dash of style. This picture is of the living room in Martha Stewart's guest house-- she used the same shade of blush pink throughout the entire house on the walls, trim, and ceiling, and it really gives it a rosy effect. I can only imagine how the color magnifies as the day goes on and the light streaming into the room changes.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">{For more pictures of Martha's dreamy guesthouse, follow this <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/marthas-maine-guesthouse">link</a>.}</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSdLOpQWDI/AAAAAAAAAFY/cib5GddWsZ4/s1600/121409-picture-181.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKSdLOpQWDI/AAAAAAAAAFY/cib5GddWsZ4/s320/121409-picture-181.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is another example of a room that has colorful trim and walls-- while I'm not a huge fan of the color-blocking that is going on in the main living area, I do love the mossy green alcove on the far wall. If the entire living area was painted the light sky-blue color, the green alcove would really pop.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This trend really inspires me to try something different and think outside the box when decorating my own home in the future. I hope you all find inspiration in the little things today, and don't forget to make life beautiful.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">Julie</span></div>Julie Robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18264858571531947911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3235554581075644092.post-78542509071704690552010-09-29T19:18:00.000-07:002010-11-23T20:14:47.798-08:00Le Dèbut<div style="text-align: center;">Hey y'all! Welcome to my first ever blog post... I am thoroughly excited to share with all of you my passion for all things decorating. Let's get started, shall we?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Since the blog is called Damask & Design, I thought it would be fitting for my first post to be about damasks and some of the ways they can be integrated into a design concept. Damasks are some of the most beautiful fabrics-- and some of you may not know that the word damask simply means "a rich patterned fabric of cotton, linen, silk, or wool". Like myself in days-gone-by, you may have thought that a damask has to look like this:</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPU3JMmsYI/AAAAAAAAADg/XRgmVxGFp3Y/s1600/Black+and+White+Damask.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPU3JMmsYI/AAAAAAAAADg/XRgmVxGFp3Y/s320/Black+and+White+Damask.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Actually, you're in luck! Damasks come in all colors, patterns, and textures. For example...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This teal and gold version is vintage colonial to me, but in an updated way.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPVYX3frxI/AAAAAAAAADk/oh547nPY_7k/s1600/073715full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPVYX3frxI/AAAAAAAAADk/oh547nPY_7k/s320/073715full.jpg" width="265" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This black-and-white version is a little French-country-with-a-twist... how cute would it be as an accent wall in a kitchen or bathroom!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPVo9CrDVI/AAAAAAAAADs/bpcL87BZGIk/s1600/damask.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPVo9CrDVI/AAAAAAAAADs/bpcL87BZGIk/s320/damask.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This rustic green and gold pattern has an ancient Italian feel... It would be great in a library or study with lots of dark wood and books.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPVtmLAKhI/AAAAAAAAADw/kA5pUjtAj0A/s1600/13452.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="269" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPVtmLAKhI/AAAAAAAAADw/kA5pUjtAj0A/s320/13452.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Isn't this pattern every little girl's dream? I know that when I was little, I wanted everything in my room to be pink... This satisfies the requests of every little girl without turning her room into a cotton candy nightmare! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPVxmvTGFI/AAAAAAAAAD0/uYEmSl1oK64/s1600/400_F_17760325_s3qmlWm8VfnoK9qSrNpJcxOv8us4OEM7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPVxmvTGFI/AAAAAAAAAD0/uYEmSl1oK64/s1600/400_F_17760325_s3qmlWm8VfnoK9qSrNpJcxOv8us4OEM7.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Not only can damasks come in a variety of patterns and textures, but they can also be integrated into a room through many different elements.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">For just a taste of this amazing accent, incorporate a few throw pillows in a rich damask, and mix in some others in more subtle patterns and solids to add interest and contrast to your design scheme.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPX1scifAI/AAAAAAAAAD4/wSIU_7qqMus/s1600/damask+w:+stripe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPX1scifAI/AAAAAAAAAD4/wSIU_7qqMus/s1600/damask+w:+stripe.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">For more of an impact, damask curtains in a fun color can become the focal point of a room. The use of solid furniture and minimal pattern elsewhere in this room really draws the viewer's attention to the windows.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">{Note: I love the orange and turquoise color scheme with the white deco accents-- so Miami Beach!}</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPZmCAfJMI/AAAAAAAAAD8/I8g4Z-Fcz7A/s1600/orange+damask+curtains.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPZmCAfJMI/AAAAAAAAAD8/I8g4Z-Fcz7A/s320/orange+damask+curtains.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Damask fabric on a headboard can really make a statement in a bedroom. I love how they mixed in the blue and yellow damask pillows to add more color while maintaining a monochromatic pattern concept.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPamnuWomI/AAAAAAAAAEA/WkCRwP3j3JI/s1600/orange+damask+headboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPamnuWomI/AAAAAAAAAEA/WkCRwP3j3JI/s320/orange+damask+headboard.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These damask chairs really up the style in this dine-in kitchen area from farmhouse geek to très chic! The room would be a little bland in their absence- they completely change the feel of the room without straying from the neutral color scheme.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPbFa1kS4I/AAAAAAAAAEE/FQJb4x3YRn8/s1600/32acd4c26edb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPbFa1kS4I/AAAAAAAAAEE/FQJb4x3YRn8/s320/32acd4c26edb.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This chair is one of my favorites-- I love the silver wood accents with the red and white damask, and the shape is amazing. I think it would look amazing in a colorful room with golden yellows and turquoises, or as the sole accent color in a neutral color scheme of grays, blacks and whites.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPv3K7bMXI/AAAAAAAAAEg/GHuJ8hdh7bw/s1600/silver+and+red+damask+chair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPv3K7bMXI/AAAAAAAAAEg/GHuJ8hdh7bw/s320/silver+and+red+damask+chair.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Some damasks can introduce new concepts into a room's design. In the case of this chair, the fun deer print with foliage and bird accenting adds an element of nature to a room in a whimsical way.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPdk4MhWoI/AAAAAAAAAEI/iOJQjosjwVE/s1600/deerchair11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPdk4MhWoI/AAAAAAAAAEI/iOJQjosjwVE/s320/deerchair11.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Last but not least, damask wallpaper... a bold statement, but one that can certainly create a unique effect in a room. One thing that I love about damask is that it is a classic style, used for centuries, but there are lots of modern versions that make it a current must-have.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Some of my favorite rooms with damask wallpaper... (cue the montage)...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A baby nursery that can be easily converted into a room for a little lady (and how amazing is that pattern?).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPmgoGbTEI/AAAAAAAAAEM/AZsu_DauaFA/s1600/6.21.10-pink-damask-wallpaper-nursery_junior_league_of_toronto_showhouse-weedecor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPmgoGbTEI/AAAAAAAAAEM/AZsu_DauaFA/s320/6.21.10-pink-damask-wallpaper-nursery_junior_league_of_toronto_showhouse-weedecor.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A subtle pattern in a masculine black and cream color scheme that looks great with the tailored deco armchair.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPnAOA2ZTI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/GfaPVxBFc7s/s1600/maison-damask_roomset_550-thibaut-paper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPnAOA2ZTI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/GfaPVxBFc7s/s320/maison-damask_roomset_550-thibaut-paper.jpg" width="283" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Just because a room has a damask wallpaper doesn't mean it has to be deco or modern... when paired with a simple four poster canopy bed and solid pastel bed linens, this subtle grey and cream damask gives this bedroom a cottagey influence. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPnlmyknUI/AAAAAAAAAEU/6lpbcQiEqWo/s1600/damask-wallpaper1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPnlmyknUI/AAAAAAAAAEU/6lpbcQiEqWo/s320/damask-wallpaper1.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">By using a metallic and teal damask wallpaper with gilt and mirrored tables and an upholstered balloon-back chair, this room has an air of elegance to it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPt-W47oeI/AAAAAAAAAEc/w8b8yOsAoy4/s1600/damask2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPt-W47oeI/AAAAAAAAAEc/w8b8yOsAoy4/s320/damask2.jpg" width="283" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Last but not least, the traditional black and white damask. I love how damask can make any room look more polished and elegant-- even a room with cotton covered couches and a traditional wood mantel. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPxHRyd0MI/AAAAAAAAAEk/I7NtQnz8oOc/s1600/ss_damaskGrand.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6veqKiMKzI/TKPxHRyd0MI/AAAAAAAAAEk/I7NtQnz8oOc/s1600/ss_damaskGrand.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So, as you can see, damask is truly a fabulously feasible option for any room. I hope this has inspired you to update your house with an element of damask (be it pillows or wallpaper) to truly make it your home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God Bless,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
